Sizes & Dimensions

How big can aluminum windows be?

How big can a tilt and turn aluminum window be?

A single tilt and turn aluminum window sash can be built up to about 2,800 mm tall (9 ft 2 in) and 1,700 mm wide (5 ft 7 in), depending on the system. Reynaers MasterLine reaches the 2,800 mm sash height, while Schüco AWS 75.SI+ and AWS 90.SI+ reach 2,500 mm (8 ft 2 in). For larger openings we combine the operable window with fixed panorama glazing in one frame.

What is the maximum size of a Schüco AWS 75.SI+ tilt & turn window?

The Schüco AWS 75.SI+ operable sash reaches a maximum height of 2,500 mm — about 8 ft 2 in — and a maximum width of 1,700 mm (about 5 ft 7 in). It carries a sash weight up to 250 kg (551 lb) and triple glazing up to 61 mm thick. Every unit is made to measure to your exact rough opening.

Can I get floor-to-ceiling aluminum windows?

Yes. For true floor-to-ceiling walls we use fixed panorama glazing or lift and slide doors, which span much wider and taller than an operable window. Because a single tilt and turn sash tops out around 8 to 9 ft, taller walls pair a fixed light with an operable window in one frame.

What is the maximum glass size and weight?

The Reynaers MasterLine 8 sash carries up to 1,200 kg of glass — about 2,645 lb — and 300 kg (661 lb) of sash weight, enough for oversized triple-glazed units. Larger glass is engineered with reinforced profiles and heavy-duty concealed hinges.

Tilt & Turn / European Windows

Understanding European tilt and turn windows

What is a tilt and turn window?

A tilt and turn window is a dual-action European window worked by a single handle. Turn the handle 90 degrees and the sash swings inward like a casement for full ventilation and easy cleaning; turn it 180 degrees and the top tilts inward for secure trickle ventilation. It is the standard window type across Europe.

Why choose European aluminum windows over standard American windows?

European aluminum windows use a thermally broken frame, triple-pane insulated glass, multi-point locking hardware, and slim sightlines that most standard double-hung windows do not offer. The result is better energy efficiency, security, sound control, and larger glass areas.

Do tilt and turn windows open in or out?

Most tilt and turn windows open inward, which makes them easy to clean from inside and compatible with exterior shading such as roller shutters and screens. Outward-opening awning and project versions are also available where inward swing is not practical.

Are European aluminum windows worth it in the USA?

For projects that value energy performance, security, quiet, and modern design, yes. They cost more than stock vinyl windows, but they deliver a Passive-House-level thermal break, RC-rated burglar resistance, and 40-plus years of aluminum durability with almost no maintenance.

Energy Efficiency & Performance

How energy efficient are aluminum windows?

Are aluminum windows energy efficient?

Modern aluminum windows are highly energy efficient because the frame is thermally broken — insulating polyamide struts separate the interior and exterior aluminum and stop heat transfer. Our systems reach whole-window U-factors around 0.14 (US) with triple glazing, well below typical code minimums.

What is a U-factor and what is a good number for windows?

U-factor measures how much heat a window loses, and lower is better. Our aluminum systems reach a whole-window U-factor of about 0.14 (US), equal to a European Uw of 0.78 to 0.80 W/m²K, thanks to a thermal break and triple-pane glass — better than most energy codes require.

What is the difference between double and triple pane windows?

A double-pane window has two glass panes and one insulated gas cavity; a triple-pane window adds a third pane and a second cavity, further cutting heat loss and outside noise. We fit triple glazing as standard on high-performance systems for cold climates and quiet interiors.

Do you offer Passive House windows?

Yes. The Schüco AWS 75.BS.SI+ block window reaches a whole-window Uw as low as 0.78 W/m²K — roughly a US U-factor of 0.14 — which meets Passive House thermal levels for ultra-low-energy homes.

Are aluminum windows good for cold or hot climates?

Both. The thermal break blocks heat loss in cold climates and heat gain in hot climates, and solar-control low-E glass can be added to cut cooling loads in sunny regions. The same frame performs from northern winters to southern summers.

Do aluminum windows have condensation problems?

No. Older non-insulated aluminum frames used to sweat, but a modern thermally broken frame keeps the interior surface warm and prevents the condensation that early aluminum was known for.

Security & Impact

How secure are aluminum windows?

What is an RC2 window?

RC2 is a burglar-resistance class defined by the European standard EN 1627. An RC2 window resists a break-in with simple tools such as a screwdriver, pliers, and wedges for at least 3 minutes, using multi-point mushroom-head locking, a lockable handle, and P4A laminated safety glass. Police and insurers recommend RC2 as the minimum for easily accessible windows.

What is the difference between RC2 and RC3 windows?

RC3 resists a more experienced burglar who additionally uses a crowbar, for at least 5 minutes, tested at a 6,000 N load, with stronger P5A laminated glass. RC2 resists simple hand tools for 3 minutes. Our Schüco and Reynaers systems are available up to RC3.

How do multi-point locks make windows more secure?

One turn of the handle drives mushroom-head steel pins around the entire sash into hardened keepers on the frame — up to nine locking points. When someone tries to pry the window, the mushroom-shaped pins hook the keepers so the sash cannot be levered out of the frame.

Are your aluminum windows hurricane or impact rated?

Our systems are engineered to European EN standards for wind load, water tightness, and burglar resistance (RC1 to RC3). For Florida and coastal High-Velocity Hurricane Zone projects that require a Miami-Dade or Florida Building Code impact approval, contact us so we can confirm a certified configuration for your permit.

Colors, Finishes & Materials

What colors and finishes are available?

What colors do aluminum windows come in?

Virtually any color. Aluminum frames are powder-coated in any RAL color — including popular matte black, anthracite gray (RAL 7016), and white — or anodized in metallic finishes. Durable fine-texture and wood-look finishes are also available.

Can the inside and outside of the window be different colors?

Yes. Aluminum windows can be dual-colored — for example matte black outside and white inside — so the exterior matches the facade while the interior matches your decor, at no loss of performance.

Is a black aluminum window frame available?

Yes. Matte black (RAL 9005) is one of our most requested finishes and is powder-coated for a durable, fade-resistant surface inside and out — a signature look for modern black-frame windows.

Doors, Sliding & Bifold

Sliding glass doors and bifold systems

What is a lift and slide door?

A lift and slide door is a large aluminum sliding glass door where turning the handle lifts the panel off its seals so it glides sideways with little effort, then lowers to seal airtight. It suits floor-to-ceiling panoramic openings with a low, accessible threshold.

What is a bifold door or folding glass wall?

A bifold door is a run of aluminum panels hinged together that fold and stack to one side like an accordion, opening an entire wall to the outdoors. It is ideal for patios and indoor-outdoor living where you want the opening fully cleared.

What is the difference between sliding and bifold doors?

A lift and slide door glides panels past each other and keeps the glass in view even when closed, with fewer frame lines and big uninterrupted views; a bifold folds panels away to clear almost the entire opening. Choose sliding for the view, bifold for a fully open wall.

Curtain Wall & Commercial

Curtain wall and storefront systems

What is the difference between a curtain wall and a storefront?

A storefront is a lower-rise aluminum glazing system, typically for ground-floor entrances up to about three stories; a curtain wall is a higher-performance, structurally engineered facade for taller buildings, with a better thermal break and longer spans. Both use extruded aluminum framing.

Do you make commercial aluminum curtain walls?

Yes. We supply mullion-transom curtain wall and storefront systems for transparent, multi-story building envelopes — structurally engineered, highly insulated, and available with RC2 to RC3 security for commercial and residential projects.
